Azerbaijan Entry Restrictions

As of March 28, 2023, Azerbaijan has removed all entry restrictions. Now, nationals and residents of numerous countries have the opportunity to enter the country using the Azerbaijan Visa online.

All travellers should get information about the travel restrictions when planning a visit to Azerbaijan. Those who fulfil the entry requirements and satisfy all the conditions can enter Azerbaijan without any limitation. However, additional requirements can be added to Azerbaijan’s visa policy due to the pandemic situation.

To enter the Republic of Azerbaijan, passengers must get a Azerbaijan visa by applying online via the Azerbaijan eVisa system or ASAN Visa system or at an embassy. In response to current events, the government of Azerbaijan has restricted travellers from different nationalities to visit the country. The shift in Azerbaijan’s visa policy, requirements, and restrictions are discussed below.

Entry Restrictions Due To Coronavirus At Azerbaijan

Due to fluctuating coronavirus cases across the world, Azerbaijan has suspended the online visa system for most foreign countries. To visit Azerbaijan, foreigners can get a permit to enter the country by appearing in person at the nearest Azerbaijan embassy or consulate. The border officials are also active in disinfecting the land border crossings.

Who can enter Azerbaijan

• Negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure (including minors)
• An official vaccination certificate or document certifying that the traveller is vaccinated
• Or an official document clearly stating the traveller’ recovery from coronavirus

Azerbaijan entry rules during COVID-19

Foreigners must follow coronavirus protocols if they need to enter Azerbaijan. Overseas visitors have to present a negative PCR test proof. Otherwise, the officials can deny entry.

Temperature controls are installed at Azerbaijan airports, and any additional testing is also possible on arrival. Travellers can bear a maximum temperature of 99.5 ºF / 37.5 ºC.

Quarantine requirements

If the visitor tests negative on arrival, there is no requirement for him to quarantine at a government facility. However, self-isolation for 14 days is mandatory for all overseas visitors.

Azerbaijan Entry Restrictions

Travellers must present their electronic visa (ASAN electronic visa) or embassy visa and valid passport while crossing the borders. Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival is also mandatory. Other travel documents depending upon your visit nature should also be ready beforehand.

Azerbaijan electronic visa

Azerbaijan issues eVisa or electronic visas to the citizens from eligible countries to visit and stay in Azerbaijan for up to 30 days. Visa holders can enter the country only one time on their eVisas. If the visitor wishes to travel back and forth from Azerbaijan to other countries, he needs to get a new eVisa.

The online visa system has made the process of getting a visa easier and quicker than ever. Allowed travellers can apply for eVisa from the comfort of their homes with the only Azerbaijan visa requirement is having a stable internet connection.

To apply for a eVisa, applicants must have at least six months validity of their passports. Once the visa process is complete, applicants receive their electronic visa in their email, which they provided in the application form. You must take the printout of the eVisa to present it to immigration staff at entry ports.

Azerbaijan visa at the embassy

Azerbaijan online visa service is not open to all countries. Currently, more than 90 countries are eligible for obtaining an online visa by a swift and smooth process. However, the foreigners who cannot apply for eVisa can still make their journey to Azerbaijan by requesting a visa physically at the nearest embassy or consulate.

Limitations on visa-free travel to Azerbaijan

Nationals of very few countries can enjoy a visa-free trip to Azerbaijan. In total, foreigners from just 11 nationalities can avail of the visa exemption by Azerbaijan and stay in Azerbaijan for up to 90 days without possessing any visa. However, visa-exempt citizens also need to get a visa or other permit if they intend to stay longer in the country for work or immigration purposes.

Travel Bans by Azerbaijan

Currently, the nationals of Armenia can not enter the Republic of Azerbaijan. Descendants of Armenian citizens who have other nationalities might also face entry restrictions. Foreign citizens are not allowed to visit Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas. The Azerbaijani exclaves of Karki, Barxudarlı, Sofulu and Yukari Askipara are also under travel ban, unless a special grant is given by the authorities of Azerbaijan.

Currency Import Restrictions in Azerbaijan

The travellers who are non-residents can carry an amount equivalent to 10,000 USD into Azerbaijan. If you want to make more money, you must declare it first. Moreover, the travellers can depart from Azerbaijan with an amount equivalent to 50,000 USD if they had previously declared the figure at the time of arrival.

Imports Restrictions At Azerbaijan

The government of Azerbaijan has also set custom regulations upon bringing certain items into the country. Travellers should be careful about the quantities mentioned while taking the following item with them.

• Precious jewellery or metals must be declared on arrival
